About SplitMyBuck

We believe money shouldn't come between friends

SplitMyBuck was born out of a Shimla trip where nobody agreed on who owed what. We built the tool we wished existed.

Our story

In 2026, three friends returned from Shimla trip with a WhatsApp group full of "bhai tu kitna dega?" messages and zero clarity on who owed what. One of them was a developer. Few Months later and after a lot of thinking, the first version of SplitMyBuck was live.

What started as a weekend project became something thousands of people can use daily. We realised splitting bills is genuinely stressful — and existing tools were too complex or not built for Indian users.

Today SplitMyBuck is used by daily travellers and people across India. It's free, works on any device, and your data syncs everywhere because it lives on our secure cloud servers.

1. Acceptance of terms

By using SplitMyBuck ("the Service"), you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of service

SplitMyBuck is an expense-splitting and tracking application allowing users to record shared expenses, calculate balances, and track settlements. The Service is for personal, non-commercial use.

3. User accounts

To use SplitMyBuck, you must register with a valid email address. You must be at least 18 years old, provide accurate information, and notify us immediately of any unauthorised account use.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to violate laws, harass others, upload malware, gain unauthorised access, or engage in any fraudulent purpose.

5. Financial disclaimer

Important: SplitMyBuck is a tracking and calculation tool only. We do not facilitate money transfers, hold funds, or act as a payment processor. All actual settlements happen directly between users.

6. Intellectual property

The Service and its content are owned by SplitMyBuck Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and protected by Indian and international copyright laws.

7. Limitation of liability

SplitMyBuck shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability shall not exceed USD $20.

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in Amritsar, Punjab.

At SplitMyBuck, your privacy is not a checkbox. This explains exactly what data we collect, why, and what we do with it.

What we collect

You give us: Email address (for login), your display name, and expense data you enter (names, amounts, group members).

Automatically collected: Device type and OS (for compatibility), anonymised usage patterns (to improve features), and IP address (for security).

What we do NOT collect

We do not collect bank details, UPI IDs, payment credentials, Aadhaar, PAN, or any financial account information. SplitMyBuck tracks expenses — it does not process payments.

How we use your data

We never sell your data

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to any third party. Our business is not built on advertising or data monetisation.

Data storage & security

Data is stored on Supabase servers with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit. Row-level security ensures only authorised users can access specific records.

💬 WhatsApp Bot UI simulation

Type a message the way you'd send it on WhatsApp. This shows how the bot would parse it — it isn't connected to real WhatsApp yet (that needs a small backend; see note below).

To make this real: Meta's WhatsApp Business (Cloud) API sends incoming messages to a webhook you host — a Supabase Edge Function is the natural fit since you're already on Supabase. That function would call an LLM to turn free-form text into structured data (amount, description, people), then insert into your existing expenses / expense_splits tables — the same insert logic already in saveExpense(). No changes to your database schema needed for this either.
